Met Police charge Anjem Choudary with terror offences

Anjem Choudary has been charged with three terror offences together with allegations he directed a terrorist organisation.

The 56-year-old from east London was charged by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday with three offences, following his arrest final week.

They embrace membership of a   proscribed organisation, opposite to part 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000, addressing conferences to encourage help for a proscribed organisation, opposite to sections 12(3) of the Terrorism Act 2000, and directing a terrorist organisation, opposite to part 56 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

One other man, Khaled Hussein, 28, from Canada, has additionally been charged with membership of a proscribed organisation, opposite to part 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

A Met spokesman mentioned: “On July 17, Met counter terrorism detectives investigating alleged membership of a proscribed organisation arrested a 56-year-old man in east London and a 28-year-old Canadian nationwide at Heathrow Airport, after he arrived on a flight.

“They had been held below part 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and detectives had been granted warrants of additional detention permitting them to detain the boys till Monday, 24 July.

“Each males have been remanded in custody to seem at Westminster Magistrates’ Courtroom on Monday, 24 July.”
